The Invention of the Bicycle
The history of the bicycle goes back a long way. It is a great invention that has changed the way people travel.
In 1817, a German named Drais invented the first bicycle. Drais was originally a forest ranger who had to walk a long distance every day. Tired of walking, he came up with the idea of creating a vehicle with wheels that could make him move faster. He used two wooden wheels, a saddle, and a handlebar that was used to control the front wheel to make a wheeled vehicle. People sat on the vehicle and pushed the ground with their feet to move the wooden wheels. And thus, the world's first bicycle came into being.
However, riding such a bike was not very comfortable at that time as the tyres were made of solid rubber. Later, in 1839, a Scotsman named Macmillan invented the pedal and attached it to the front wheel of the bicycle, which greatly improved the bike technology.
In the following decades, various types of bicycles emerged, such as wind-powered bicycles, water bicycles, ice bicycles, and five-wheel bicycles.Gradually, the bicycle became a popular means of transportation. With the appearance of pneumatic tyres and chains, the structure of the bicycle has become more and more perfect.
